On the galaxy surrounding the BL Lacertae object MS 0205 . 7 + 3509 ?

چکیده
We present high spatial resolution optical images of the BL Lac object MS 0205.7+3509 in the R filter, that allow us to discuss and clarify its anomalous properties. The source was previously claimed to be surrounded by a nebulosity decentered with respect to the bright nucleus. In addition the host was claimed to be a disc dominated galaxy, contrary to the large majority of the hosts of BL Lacs. We find that there is a companion galaxy at about 2′′ from MS 0205.7+3509, which is responsible for many of the anomalous properties reported for this source. The observations are discussed in the context of the microlensing hypothesis for BL Lacs.

XMM - Newton observations of the BL Lac MS 0205 . 7 + 3509 : a dense , low - metallicity absorber
The high-frequency-peaked BL Lac, MS 0205.7+3509 was observed twice with XMM-Newton. Both X-ray spectra are synchrotron-dominated, with mean 0.2–10 keV fluxes of 2.80 ± 0.01 and 3.34 ± 0.02 × 10 −12 erg cm −2 s −1. The X-ray spectra are well fit by a power-law with absorption above the Galactic value, however no absorption edges are detected, implying a low metallicity absorber (Z ⊙ = 0.04 +0.0...

Hubble Space Telescope WFPC-2 I-band (F814W) images of the BL Lacertae object OJ 287 and the surrounding field are presented. We find evidence of associated extended nebulosity near OJ 287, as well as a small nebulosity to the West, which may be spatially coincident with the position of previously observed radio emission. The brightness of a host galaxy is difficult to determine due to the brig...

Rotation measure observations of 9 quasars, 4 BL Lacertae objects, and 3 radio galaxies are presented. The rest frame rotation measures in the cores of the quasars and the jets of the radio galaxy M87 are several thousand rad m. The BL Lacertae objects and the jets of the quasars have rest frame rotation measures of a few hundred rad m. A nuclear rotation measure of 500 rad m in the rest frame ...
